Concrete Aesthetic Volume 11 The Royal National Theatre focuses on one of the most iconic brutalist buildings in London.
When it opened, the building divided opinion and was once described by King Charles III as a clever way of building a nuclear power station in the centre of London without anyone objecting. Over time, its powerful presence along the South Bank has become an essential part of the city’s architectural identity.

Designed by Denis Lasdun in collaboration with Peter Softley and completed in 1976, the theatre was granted Grade II star-listed status in 1994. Its layered terraces, strong horizontal lines and expressive concrete forms create a complex interplay of light and shadow that continues to attract architects, photographers and visitors from around the world.

This volume features 24 pages of black and white digital photographs taken in March 2023. The images offer a calm and focused study of texture, structure and scale, highlighting both the monumentality of the building and the subtle details embedded within its surfaces.

Printed in A5 format on 150 gsm paper with a 300 gsm cover, this edition is limited to 50 copies.

A considered addition for admirers of brutalism, architectural photography and postwar British architecture.
