Bittersweet remembrances and truths impossible to swallow. Folding Rock’s fifth issue is a fifteen-course tasting menu of remarkable new work, from writers pushing boundaries in a feast of different ways. Stories cultivated in grief, love and violence; in sickness and in lush abundance – told from allotments, tables, hospital beds and dog-eared recipe books.

Food, it seems, is a universal binding agent. In a world ever more disparate and draining, and with scarcity in so many of our lives, this thing and everything it comes with – family, story, ritual and comfort – is what holds us together each day. It’s what sustains us.
